Door and Window Snag List
Door and window observations need an opening reference and a clear description of the component involved. Identify the frame, leaf, glass, handle or surrounding finish before describing what you saw or experienced during ordinary use.

Give every opening a recognisable reference
Use the project door or window number when available, plus a room description. Otherwise identify the opening by a stable feature: “Bedroom 1 window facing courtyard” or “Meeting 02 entry door from corridor”. State which face of a door appears in the photograph.
For a multi-panel opening, explain which panel is involved from a stated viewpoint. “Left panel when viewed from inside” is clearer than “left window”. Capture a context photo before a close-up of hardware or glass.
Record observations within the agreed scope
- Visible marks or chips: identify the surface and position.
- Ordinary opening or closing: describe the observed movement or contact.
- Handles and visible fittings: record the condition without dismantling them.
- Surrounding finishes: distinguish frame issues from adjacent paint or sealant observations.
- Restricted access: identify locked openings or items that could not be operated.
Do not force an opening, reach through an unsafe position or remove glazing components. Fire, security, weatherproofing and other performance requirements need the relevant competent assessment. A snag list of visible findings does not certify any of those systems.
Example: a door that contacts the frame
An illustrative entry is: “Meeting 02 entry door, corridor face. Upper latch-side corner contacts frame during normal closing. Door not forced. Context photo identifies opening; close photo shows the contact position.” Record whether the observation was repeated and who was present if that helps explain the record.
Ask the nominated contractor to assess the cause and action. Avoid writing “hinges installed incorrectly” unless that conclusion has been established. Keep a reported explanation separate from your own observation and attribute it to the person who supplied it.
Follow up the same component
Use Site Audit to keep the description and supporting photos together. Where different contractors cover hardware and surrounding finishes, create separate actionable records or clearly identify the coordination owner. Pro can export a selected contractor report; review it before issue.
On reinspection, use the same opening reference and record the actual outcome. A new image of the handle does not demonstrate that the previously reported closing issue was checked. Add a dated note explaining what was observed, any remaining limitation and the next step. The reinspection checklist helps distinguish reported completion from a checked result.
