Joinery Snag List Checklist

Joinery reports work best when the component is unmistakable: the particular cabinet, drawer front, shelf or panel. Separate appearance observations from operation so the contractor understands what needs assessment and what to check afterwards.

Identify the component before describing it

Give the room, joinery run and component position. “Island facing oven, second drawer from left, top row” works better than “middle drawer”. If the installer uses unit numbers, record that reference alongside the plain-language location.

Check ordinary operation only where it is safe and within the agreed inspection scope. Do not force a sticking component or remove hardware to diagnose it. Record what happened during normal use and leave adjustment methods to the responsible contractor.

Keep finish and operation findings separate

  • Door or drawer contact: state where contact occurs and during which movement.
  • Handle or fitting: identify the component and the observed condition.
  • Surface damage: describe the position without assuming its cause.
  • Missing work: name the absent shelf, trim or panel.
  • Alignment concern: include a context view of adjacent components.
  • Restricted inspection: note locked, loaded or protected cupboards.

A single drawer can have more than one observation. If a scratched front and a sticking runner will be assessed or closed independently, create separate records. If they belong in one record, describe both clearly and ensure the resolution note addresses both.

Example for a sticking drawer

An illustrative description is: “Office kitchenette, base units beside fridge, upper drawer. Drawer front contacts the neighbouring door edge during normal opening. No hardware removed. Close view shows contact point; wider view identifies both components.” Include the date and the assigned company.

The next action might be “Joinery contractor to assess and confirm proposed adjustment.” A repair direction such as “replace runner” should come from an appropriate assessment, not from guessing at the mechanism. Record any requirement to empty the drawer before the return visit.

Review the repair against the original observation

After work is reported complete, locate the same component and repeat the relevant permitted observation. If it now opens without the previously recorded contact, describe that result and when you checked it. Avoid a vague “fixed” note that leaves later readers unsure whether finish damage was also addressed.

Site Audit keeps multiple photos and captions against the item. Pro adds contractor-specific PDFs for issuing a focused list. Keep the original photos as context and date the follow-up images. If another trade must finish first, use the contractor return-visit checklist to confirm readiness and access before booking the joiner.
