Choosing a snagging app without a subscription
A one-time purchase makes sense when the app covers the work you repeat. Use a small real inspection to test capture, reporting and follow-up before deciding whether an offline snagging app fits your business.

Start with the way you work
Write down who records the defects, who maintains the current list and what the recipient needs. A solo inspector who sends a checked PDF has different requirements from a site team editing the same drawing. Subscription cost is only one part of that decision. A cheap tool that cannot deliver the required format still creates extra administration.
Site Audit is an Android app with on-device records and PDF generation. It has no shared live project, browser dashboard or automatic cloud synchronisation. That can suit an inspector who owns the record and sends documents to clients. If several people must update one live list, put collaboration on your requirements list before choosing software.
Run a complete trial job
Use one representative project rather than a blank demonstration. Add an issue with a wide location photo, a detail photo, a caption, a contractor and a due date. Include a second item with a longer description. Generate a report, open the file and ask someone who did not attend the inspection to locate both observations.
- Check whether adding and correcting an item feels practical on your phone.
- Switch to airplane mode after setup and test capture and PDF generation.
- Read the PDF at normal size and zoom in on the smallest useful detail.
- Reconnect, share it through your usual app, and confirm the recipient can open it.
- Create a backup and save the issued PDF in your normal job folder.

For example, a builder with three separate client jobs benefits from keeping their records apart. An inspector who must submit a spreadsheet needs CSV export. Check data handling as carefully as price
Offline storage means you are responsible for keeping a recoverable copy. A PDF preserves what you issued. A backup preserves the working project data. Keeping both only on the inspection phone leaves both vulnerable to a lost or damaged device. Save a separate copy to a destination you control and can access later.
Do not confuse an exported CSV with a full project backup. It is a useful register for spreadsheet work, but it does not replace the app backup or attach the original photo files. Follow the backup workflow before a phone change.
Use a simple buying decision
Choose based on the trial result: can you capture the observation, explain it in a usable report and preserve the record? If yes, decide whether you need the extra Pro capabilities for your next job. If your requirement is shared editing, automatic cloud backup or a client portal, evaluate a service built for that workflow.
